The Peter Couche Foundation

The impact of stroke is significant and in Australia alone:

  • Someone suffers a stroke every 10 minutes.
  • Over 250,000 live with the aftermath of a stroke, making it the leading cause of disability in Australia.
  • Stroke is the second single greatest killer after coronary heart disease, and kills more women than breast cancer.
  • Stroke costs Australia an estimated $2.14 billion a year.

And sadly, it could happen to any of us.  Just like it happened to Peter Couche – as a healthy, outgoing 42 year old business man and father of three on a trip through Singapore.

There is an urgent need to progress stroke research to improve clinical care and reduce the incidence of stroke. This is what lead to Peter Couche establishing his Foundation within the University of Adelaide and since 2010 has raised over $850,000 to support vital medical research. We need your support to continue this important work that provides new hope for stroke sufferers and their families.
